Tourist boat capsizes off Kodibengre beach in Udupi; several injured

Udupi, Jan 26, 2026: Several tourists sustained serious injuries after a tourist boat reportedly capsized in the sea near Kodibengre beach on Monday morning, January 26.

According to sources, tourists staying at a nearby resort had ventured out to sea for a leisure ride. At the time of the incident, the boat was carrying around 10 to 15 tourists, and it is reported that none of them were wearing life jackets.

The boat suddenly overturned, throwing all the passengers into the sea. Local fishermen and rescue teams quickly rushed to the spot and rescued the tourists.

Some of the injured are said to be in critical condition and are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital, while others suffered minor injuries and were given first aid at the scene.

Malpe police reached the location after being informed and have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
