Three men associated with NGO arrested for torturing woman

Mangaluru, April 3, 2022: Three men associated with an NGO named Maimuna Foundation at Mulki Karnad were arrested on the charges of assaulting and torturing a  woman.

The aggrieved woman had lodged a complaint at Pandeshwar women’s police station. Those arrested are Asif, Shivam and Mohammad Aftab. Asif is the owner of the Foundation.

The aggrieved woman Vanaja of Shivamogga origin who was earlier working as a home nurse and as an assistant at a mall was left without work due to Covid pandemic and had sought the help of Shivam after she was left with no money to pay rent.

Shivam had referred her to Maimuna Foundation after contacting Asif and she was staying there since a year. During her stay, the warden and manager named Shashidhar had escaped after some irregularity. The owner suspecting that even Vanaja was involved in irregularities had reportedly tortured her and had taken away her mobile phones, Aadhar card, bank passbook and other records.

Though the woman suffered fracture in her hand due to the attack the accused reportedly forced her to state that she had suffered a fall and even tried to keep her in confinement, the complainant has alleged.
