Mangaluru, May 26,2017 :The second edition of the Indian Open Of Surfing was inaugurated at Sasihitlu Beach here on May 26, Friday by DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai.
Speaking on the occasion, Rai said the event organised at Sasihitlu is a great encouragement for surfers at a time when not many surfing events are organised. He also stated that even the government would give due support to the sport.
Deputy Commissioner Dr K G Jagadeesha who also spoke, said it has been decided to hold a World Surfing Fest at Sasihitlu from May 25 to 27 next year and that preparations are already underway.
Abhayachandra Jain, MLA of Mulki-Moodbidri constituency presided over the function. Kavitha Sanil, Mayor, JR Lobo, MLA of Mangaluru South, Naveen Raj Singh, Secretary of Tourism Department, Manohar Shet ty, President of Kanara Surfing and Water Sports Promotion Council, M Chandra Sekhar, City Police Commissioner, Kumar Additional DC, Kishore Kumar, President of Surfing Federation of India and others were present.
The three-day event is being participated by over 120 surfers including local as well as international talents.
Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty is the Ambassador of the event. International Surfing Federation and Surfing Federation of India have approved this event which is jointly organised by DK District Administration, Kanara Surfing and Water Sports Promotion Council and Mantra Surf Club.
