Third Phase Fisheries Jetty construction incomplete even after a decade

Mangaluru, March 7, 2021: The Third phase Fisheries Jetty project which was initiated at the Fisheries Port of Mangaluru as long as 11 years ago, is still not complete much to the disappointment of the fishing community. The project aimed at easing the pressure on the port.

When  fishermen  faced problems even after the commencement the Phase  1 and 2 Fisheries Jetty,  it was decided to have a third one and  foundation was laid for the same in 2010. But lack of co-ordination between different departments as well as the absence of the will power  resulted in the lagging behind of this project. It is said at least Rs 22 crore is required to complete the pending works.

Reacting to the delay in the completion of the works,  Nitin Kumar, President of Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation said   the matter has already been taken up with Fisheries Minister  S Angara. He said  Finance Department has approved the proposal and the cabinet   approval is pending.

The third phase jetty would measure 750 meters long and the project is estimated to cost Rs 72.80 crores. The First phase jetty is  138 meter long while the second phase jetty is 67 meters long. The earlier two projects were implemented at a cost of Rs 147.80 lakhs and Rs 144.67 lakhs respectively.
