Bantwal, Sep 3, 2013 : Thieves made a vain attempt to burgle the Vittalpadnur Agricultural Co-operative Bank at Kolnad near here on the night of September 1, Sunday.

The burglars had made way into the bank through the window and tried to open the locker but in vain. They had used gas cutters for the purpose as was evident from the gas cylinder, cutter, torch and other implements left behind by them.
Vittal and Bantwal police visited the spot for investigations. A dog squad and finger print experts were also sent.
It is learnt the bank had gold worth Rs 2 crore in the locker apart from cash to the tune of Rs 2 lakhs. Still the bank management had not installed CCTV nor any burglar alarm. It also did not have a security guard. The poor security arrangements had in fact lured the thieves to burgle the bank.
As soon as news of the vain burglary attempt spread, hundreds of customers gathered and only heaved a sigh of relief on knowing that their valuables were safe.
