Theft of jewellery worth Rs 18 lakhs from bus: Accused arrested from Maharashtra

Udupi, June 24, 2022: Byndoor Police who are investigating into the recent case of theft of gold jewellery worth Rs 18 lakhs from a private bus when it was stationed outside a hotel near Shiroor for breakfast, have succeeded in arresting the four accused  from Maharashtra.

The accused  were arrested   near the Songir tollgate in Dule district of Maharashtra on June 19. The police have recovered 466.960 grams gold jewellery worth Rs 18 lakhs, a car worth Rs 8 lakhs and two mobile phones from the accused.

All the acused are from Madhya Pradesh. They have been identified as Ali Khan (31),  Amjad Khan (33) of Sindhi in Dharmapri, Ikrar Khan (30) of  Dar district and  Gopal Amlawaar (35) of Maravoor taluk.

The gold belonged to a jeweller named Eshwar Dalichand of Mumbai. He had purchased the jewellery in Mumbai and was heading towards Mangaluru for sale. However the accused who knew about this managed to steal the suitcase containing the gold when the bus was stopped for breakfast. They had opened the suitcase, stole the jewellery and abandoned the suitcase behind the bus.

The victim had lodged a complaint with the Byndoor Police in this regard.
