Mangalore, June 25, 2012 : A 17-year-old boy, identified as Rohit of Hosadaku in Kinnigoli, died of drowning at Soorinje Puchchady in Suratkal on June 24, Sunday.
A group of five boys, including Rohit, had arrived at Soorinje for fishing and swimming, and four of them escaped a watery grave.
Reportedly, the five dived into the river from the branches of a tree, but Rohit was pulled in by the strong currents of the river. His friends immediately alerted their families.
Although rescue teams comprising local people, ZP member Ishwar Kateel, fishermen, and fire fighting personnel tried to save him, they could not succeed.
Rohit, who had just completed his II PU, was employed at Arvind Motors in Kuloor. He has a brother and a sister, who go to school.
MLA Abhaychandra Jain, BJP leader Kasturi Panja, Kateel TP member Baby Sundar Kodi, and several Soorinje GP members visited at the spot.
