Tebma Shipyards to launch new ship with 2800-ton capacity

Udupi, September 17: Tebma Shipyards Ltd. will soon launch its brand new ship at its Malpe shipyard. Vice President (operations) of Tebma Shipyards Sathish Raja Varma said that company moved the new ship from the new building to its launch position on September 10, a process that took 8 hours, considering the fact that the ship has the capacity for 2,800 tonnes.

The new ship could be moved faster thanks to the efforts of a dedicated team, which utilized the latest innovative technology, said Mr. Varma. The ship was moved to its launching cradle in two hours with the help of wire ropes and winch power. Later this month, the ship will be launched into the slipway after conducting the essential underwater inspections, he informed.

The company had started work on constructing 6 Tugs of 10T bollard pull capacity for the Indian Navy and also plans to launch 2 Tugs of 25T bollard pull capacities for the Indian Navy. In Jan 2011, the company will commence work on research vessels for FUGRO, an American-based company, he said.

Mr. Varma also said that the company hopes to make many improvements in the following year in spite of the tough financial situations it faced last year. This is because the company has taken a number of orders and is also grateful to the support of the district administration, vendors, contractors, and the local fraternity.
