Teaching and research must go hand-in-hand: Prof S C Sharma at Mangaluru University 41st Convocation

Mangaluru, Mar 15, 2023: Environmental crisis is a major issue  before the higher education field, said National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Director Prof S C Sharma.

He was delivering the 41st Convocation Address of Mangalore University at the Mangala Auditorium of the University on March 15, Wednesday.

Pointing out that environmental issues are a major challenge before the global higher education system, he said the environmental issues may be natural or due to human intervention. When we try to understand natural calamities we also need to give a good thought about human made environmental dangers, he added.

In a University, teaching and research must go hand-in-hand, students must evince interest in research, education is not just the knowledge we gain in educational institutions but the knowledge which we gain from the world around us. He also called upon students to inculcate good values.

Karnataka Governor and Chancellor of the University Thawar Chand Gehlot presided over the function. He said everyone must join hands in making India a global leader.

115 scholars receive Ph.D :

A total of 11 scholars received their Ph.D degrees on this occasion. Among the recipients were seven nationals.

A total of 155 meritorious students received  gold medals and 57 received cash prizes. Certificates were awarded to 199 rank holders.

Vice Chancellor Prof  P S Yadapadittaya presided over the function.

G Ramakrishna Achar, entrepreneur (Agriculture, Education and Social Service), Haji U K Monu, Chairman of Kanachur Group of Institutions ( Education and Social Service) and Prof M B Puranik, Chairman of Sharada Group of Institutions ( Education and Social Service) received honorary doctorates on the occasion.
