Manipal, Dec 29, 2021: "Though the nation’s economy suffered extensively, especially in the first quarter of 2020, things have become better with a move from a complete lockdown to a partial lockdown and eventually, micro-containment zones. The people of India have been quite resilient through the pandemic," said Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
She was delivering a talk on MV Kamath Centenary Memorial Lecture on the topic ‘India and the Post-Pandemic Economic Reset’ organised by Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC) virtually on December 28, Tuesday.
Nirmala Sitharaman said IMF and World Bank have recognised India as the fastest growing economy post pandemic and added that there was sustainable growth momentum. She said 38 start-ups have been recognized as Unicorns in 2020 and added that at least three unicorns have emerged during every month of 2021 in various fields.
She also spoke about the vaccination coverage and added 95% of the population has got the first dose in less than 12 months and 60% have received their second dose.
Dr H S Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of MAHE spoke on the life and achievements of Late M V Kamath, Dr Narayan Sabhahit, Registrar of MAHE and others were present.
