Mangaluru, Oct 13, 2026: The decision to conduct examinations during the Dasara festival holidays and the alleged use of force and police brutality against students who raised their voices against it are strongly condemnable. Peaceful protest and lawful struggle are fundamental rights of students in a democratic system.
The police and administration must provide a clear explanation regarding who ordered the police personnel to assault and mistreat the students. It is unfortunate that such an incident has occurred during the festive season, when the college administration should have ensured that religious sentiments were respected and the police should have handled the situation with restraint.
The officials responsible for the alleged assault and high-handedness against students in Mangaluru must be suspended immediately.
Public representatives and senior officials must intervene without delay, ensure justice for the students who faced alleged police brutality, and respond appropriately to their protest and grievances.
