Suratkal police arrest 2 chain snatchers

Mangalore, July 30, 2012 : The Suratkal police arrested two chain snatchers on July 29, Sunday and seized 160gms gold jewelry worth Rs. 5 lakh and a two-wheeler from them. The arrested are Mohammed Rafiq (24) of BC Road in Bantwal and Sarfaraz (23) of Salmara in Puttur.

The two had snatched several chains in Nadugod in Bajpe, Neermarga, Mangaladevi, and other placed. Rafiq already has attempted burglary cases registered against him in Moodubidri and Barke police stations.

While Rafiq is a graduate, Sarfaraz has studied fire and safety engineering and works at Barucha Group in Pune. The latter had come down to Mangalore on vacation and joined Rafiq in his criminal activities.

The two-wheeler used in the crime used to belong to a man in Karkala, but it has already had eight owners. None of its eight owners had bothered to register the vehicle in their name.

K. U. Belliappa, sub inspector of Suratkal, and police officers Vijayraj, Ramachandra, Vinod, Girish, Durgaprasad, and others investigated this case.

The Suratkal police registered a case against the two and produced them in court.
