Surathkal: Youth drowns at Guddakopla beach, two others swim to safety

Surathkal, Oct 4, 2025: A tragic incident was reported on Thursday evening at Guddakopla beach in Surathkal, where one of three youths who had gone swimming drowned while the other two managed to swim ashore.

The victim has been identified as Basavaraju (22), originally from North Karnataka and currently residing in Kana, Surathkal. The two who survived have been identified as Ravi and Siddu, children of his wife’s elder sister.

According to reports, Basavaraju, his brother-in-law Raju, and his wife’s nephews Ravi and Siddu had gone to the Guddakopla beach for a swim. Despite warnings from locals not to enter the rough sea, Basavaraju, Siddu, and Ravi ventured in, insisting they wanted to swim. All three were caught in strong waves. While Siddu and Ravi managed to reach the shore, Basavaraju was swept away.

Raju later lodged a complaint with Surathkal police, stating that Basavaraju went missing in the sea. It is learned that Basavaraju was married just seven months ago. Police have registered a case and are investigating further.
