Surathkal: West Bengal youth murdered, one suspect arrested

Surathkal, Sep 6, 2025: Police have arrested one accused in connection with the murder of a youth from West Bengal whose body was found in a water tank at an estate in Mukka.

The victim has been identified as Mukesh Mandal (27), a resident of Parampur, Ratua in Malda district of West Bengal, who was working as a daily wage labourer at Rohan Estate in Mukka. He had gone missing on June 24, 2025, and a case was registered at Surathkal police station. On August 21, 2025, his decomposed body was discovered in the estate’s water tank.

During investigation, police took into custody another West Bengal native, Lakshman Mandal alias Lakhan, who confessed to killing Mukesh. According to police, he admitted that he had struck Mukesh on the head with an iron rod, killed him, dumped the body in the water tank and covered it with a wooden lid.

Police also revealed that two assault cases are already registered against accused Lakshman Mandal at Ratua police station in West Bengal.
