Surathkal: Two dead, one critical in gas leak at MRPL H2S unit

Surathkal, July 12, 2025: In a tragic incident reported on Saturday morning, a gas leak at the H2S gas production unit of MRPL (Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited) in Surathkal has resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left one seriously injured.

The deceased have been identified as technical assistants Bijil Prasad and Deep Chandra Bhar. Another worker, reportedly from Uttar Pradesh, sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to AJ Hospital in the city.

The incident occurred in the storage area of the OM&S (Operations, Maintenance & Services) unit at MRPL. All three individuals were reportedly engaged in the maintenance work of the unit.
