Sullia woman killed by lightening on Sunday

Sullia: April 9, 2012 : A woman was killed by lightening on April 8 Sunday. Certain regions of DK, especially Sullia, witnessed heavy rain accompanied by lightening and strong wind on Sunday.

 

 

The deceased is Girija (35), the wife of Babu of Kukkunjadka Colony near Chokkady in Sullia who died while grinding something on the evening of Sunday. The lightening struck a tree, flowed through the electrical wiring and hit Girija who died on the spot. Since the rest of the family was away, they survived miraculously.

Heavy rains were reported from Golithottu, Shiradi, Ichalampady, and Bajettur in Puttur as well as in Belthangady and Uppinangady.

Lightening caused interrupted power suppy in Subrahmanya and damage to electrical appliances in several houses. Trees fell on electric poles, leading to power failure in several areas. Traffic was also blocked at several points because of fallen trees.

Certain areas in Chikmagalur and Shimoga also had good rain on Sunday, accompanied by thunder and lightening.
