Sullia : Village girl Namitha qualifies for Asian Youth Games at China

Sullia, Aug 6, 2013 :  A young rural talent from a village in Sullia taluk has been chosen to represent India in the Asian youth Games to be held at the Olympics Stadium at Nanjing in China from August 16 to 25.


Namitha 1 The girl is Namitha, a second PUC (Arts) student of Alva’s  College, Moodbidri. She hails from Kollamogaru, a very remote area in Sullia and will participate in the shot put event.

Namitha  was qualified for the Asian Youth Games after she  recorded 13.56 meters in shot put  in the National Youth Games held at Kerala.

Daughter of Kushalappa Gowda-Pushpavathi couple, Namitha has participated in several state and national level events and has  won many awards. She has two records  in state level in the shot put (14-16 years category). She recorded a distance of 9.47 meters  at 14 years of age, 13.29 meters at 16 years and more recently recorded 13.13 meters in the junior athletics event   held at Shimoga.

Namitha is being coached by Rajeev, Physical Instructor at Alva’s College where she is pursuing her education since eighth standard under Sports Quota.

Namitha is also a good Kabaddi, volleyball, throwball and discus throw athlete. The young and talented athlete is now hoping that the Government would come forward to extend financial aid to  boost her career.
