Mangalore, Nov 20, 2013: The case of the alleged sacrifice of a baby for the greed of treasure in the reserve forest area of Sullia taluk, has slowly begun  shedding light on the mystery behind more death cases in Ratnapura. In the meantime, the mysterious missing of a person who was viewed with an eye of suspicion by the locals, has further substantiated the doubts.

In August this year, a  one year old child had gone missing and later found dead. Locals then had a strong suspicion that the child was killed for  treasure.  Of late,  the secret treasure is once again making news and is believed to be the cause of more deaths in Ratnapur area.

Ratnapura is a village in Sullia taluk.  It is being said that the place was an abode of Goddess Durga Parameshwari as early as 800 years ago. Legend also has it that fed up with the atrocities during the times of the kings then, the Goddess  had floated in the river and  then  made  a place near Kukke Subrahmanya as her abode. As if to substantiate it there are remains of a temple and a lake in Ratnapura area even today. Ratnapura is a place famous for its precious stones which are much in demand in Jaipur and other places and are worth several thousands of rupees.

As if this is not suffice, some astrologer had  reportedly set afloat a news that there was treasure here. It is owing to this reason that there have been several searches for treasure here since the past three to four years. It is learnt, the astrologer has also suggested human sacrifice to gain possession of the wealth.

Baby goes missing:
It was August 11, 2013. The one year and 11 month old baby girl Sarika, daughter of Mohandas, Bhavani couple had all of a sudden gone missing.  After a futile search, parents lodge a police complaint. Thirteen days later, the baby’s body was found in the river with head separated from the body. Though doctors concluded this to be an accidental death, parents were not ready to accept it. Moreover, the baby’s body was not decomposed. There were also traces of black magic done close by an ancient lake a few kms away from the place where the baby’s body was found. This further substantiated doubts that the child was sacrificed for treasure.

In the backdrop of these developments, locals   suspect foul play behind several cases including the suspicious death  of Parameshwar of Balegodu, the   death of an astrologer reportedly due to heart attack at Valalambe on September 20, the  tracing  of the body of Devanagowda  hanging from a tree, the death of a one year old child and the suicide of a woman from the area. All these cases are being linked to the treasure mystery. The Sullia police have been requested to undertake a thorough probe.

Amid these developments, a person named Sukumar who was viewed as a suspect, has gone missing. It is said this man was found at the place where the body of Parameshwar Gowda of Balegodu was found and that he was also part of the local team which had searched for baby Sarika. Now as police investigation has picked up  he is missing, A case has been registered against him in Sullia police station.
