Sullia: Sambar deer found dead by roadside; hunting suspected

Sullia, November 29, 2025: The carcass of a Sambar deer was found on Thursday by the roadside at Panathila on the Peraje–Nidyamale road. It is suspected that hunters shot the Sambar deer on the night of November 27, causing it to collapse near the roadside.

Officers from the Sampaje Forest Department have taken possession of the dead Sambar deer and have questioned several individuals in connection with the incident. Local residents who noticed the animal lying by the road alerted the forest officials.
