Sullia: Man absconding for 35 years arrested in attempted murder case

Sullia, Oct 16, 2025: Sullia police have successfully arrested a man who had been on the run for 35 years in connection with a serious criminal case. The accused, Balan (73), a resident of Natti House in Thrissur district of Kerala, was finally tracked down and apprehended.

According to police reports, in 1990, Balan, along with others, was involved in a violent incident in Nagapattana area of Aletti village, Sullia Taluk. The group had unlawfully assembled and attacked two men, Shantappa and Subbaya, with swords, causing grievous injuries.


Absconded man


A case was registered at the Sullia Police Station under Crime No. 64/1990, involving IPC Sections 143, 147, 148, 324, 326, 506, and 149. Balan, a key accused in the case, had been absconding ever since without appearing before the court.

After extensive investigation and reliable intelligence, Sullia police traced Balan to Thrissur, Kerala, and arrested him.

He was produced before the Sullia JMFC court on October 13, and after the hearing, the court remanded him to judicial custody, police confirmed.
