
Mangaluru, May 25, 2026: A baby elephant was found dead at a farmland in Adthale near Aranthodu in Sullia of Dakshina Kannada district, with preliminary findings suggesting that it may have died after being pierced by the tusk of a male elephant.
The carcass of the elephant calf was discovered in an arecanut plantation belonging to a local resident, following which locals alerted the Forest Department officials.
Acting on the instructions of Sullia ACF Prashanth Pai, forest officials visited the spot and conducted an inspection. A team led by Sullia Range Forest Officer Manjunath arranged for the postmortem examination of the carcass.
According to initial observations, officials suspect that the calf may have died after being attacked by a male elephant using its tusk.
The deceased elephant calf was female, and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem report.
