Sullia, Mar 2, 2026: Alleging prolonged delay in road development works, residents of Ajjavara village in the taluk have put up a banner calling for a boycott of elections.

Villagers have expressed anger over the inordinate delay in asphalt laying of the nearly 3-kilometre stretch from the cross road at Shiraje 2nd Ward to Beenadka in Bellare 4th Ward of Ajjavara village.

Poll boycot

According to locals, repeated petitions have been submitted for nearly 40 years seeking asphaltation of the road from Shiraje 2nd Ward cross to Beenadka in Bellare 4th Ward. However, the failure to commence the work has led to growing resentment among residents. The banner also highlights the lack of proper drinking water facilities in the area. Residents have accused politicians of seeking votes with false promises while ignoring their longstanding demands.

Warning that continued neglect will not be tolerated, residents of Shiraje and Bellare Beenadka — who say they have been deprived of basic amenities — have threatened to boycott the upcoming elections. Overall, public dissatisfaction over the lack of infrastructure has now escalated to the stage of an election boycott, with villagers urging the authorities concerned to take immediate action.
