Mangalore, August 19: A large group of students belonging to St. Aloysius College organized a protest against the college management for allegedly suspending 10 PUC students for boycotting classes to participate in a protest in support of Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement.

The protesting students, under the guidance of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP), threatened to intensify their protest if the college management took action against students who participated in the anti-corruption movement.

Reportedly, the students planned to protest in support of Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement on Thursday, but were denied permission to do so. The protestors also accused the principal of suspending 10 students for joining in the anti-corruption protests on Thursday.

The students who gathered at the main entrance of the college on the morning of Friday said that they were not only agitating against corruption, but also against the actions of the college management.
Later, the protestors agreed to go to class only after the college authorities promised them that no action will be taken against them, said ABVP leader Mahesh.

The lecturers do not know anything about the college management suspending 10 students. They told reporters that the college had permitted students to participate in the protest on Wednesday, but not on Thursday. The students, who had wanted to protest on Thursday too, had decided to raise their voices against the college authorities.

The principal of St. Aloysius College has chosen to remain silent.
