In his protest address, Nithin said that this 116-year-old dam along with five districts of Kerala such as Ernakulum, Idukki, Kottayam, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta are in danger of being destroyed by earthquakes.

The issue has been pending for the past 4 months, he said, adding that the central government as well as the TN government is least bothered about taking action about the issue.

Further, he said that increase in flow of water into the reservoir, over and above the maximum storage limit of 136ft has further endangered the dam. He therefore demanded that the water level should be decreased to 120ft and that a new dam should be constructed at Mullaperiyar.
