Bantwal, July 17, 2013 : The Karla Government Lower Primary School in Perne village of Bantwal Taluk can be one classic example to the hardships faced by many a government school for want of adequate teaching staff.

In this particular school which has a student strength of 99 and just two teachers, students sometimes have to inevitably don the role of teachers to manage the classes.
The school has Varijakshi as its headmistress and Babu Gowda as Assistant Teacher. Both had to put in a great deal of efforts to manage this school, conduct the classes and also look into the mid-day meal scheme. Though the government has ensured adequate facilities, the school mainly faces shortage of classrooms and teachers. Presently, the third and fourth standard students make a combined study in one class room.
On July 15, it was a one-man show for Assistant Teacher Babu Gowda here as the headmistress Varijakshi had applied for leave on some urgent work. Students themselves were seen conducting some classes on this day as it was next to impossible for the lone teacher Babu Gowda to handle all the work.
It is learnt, the school has been facing shortage of teaching staff since two years. In the meantime the Bantwal Block Education Officer has assured to appoint guest teachers to the Karla school on a priority basis at the earliest.
