Student rape case: Convict gets 8 yrs RI

minor rape13oct6 1Mangalore, Oct 6, 2013: A youth who has been convicted in the case of the rape of a 17 year old girl at Muchur  in Mangalore taluk,  has been   sentenced to eight years of rigorous imprisonment by the Fourth Additional District and Sessions Court on October 5, Saturday. The court has also imposed a penalty of Rs 25000 on him.

The youth named Roopesh alias Roopesh Devadiga alias Prashanth (25) was earlier convicted by the court on October 1. He was arrested for raping a college student on December 10,2010 and threatening to kill her. As per the court’s order he will have to undergo two  more years of imprisonment  if he fails to pay the penalty amount.

The judgement was delivered by Judge  BK Naik.

The case:
  The victim, then a second PUC student of a college near Kateel  used to proceed to her college   by a bus after  supplying milk to a local dairy  every morning. On December 10, 2010, she was returning in the evening after taking back the empty can when at around 4.15 pm, the accused  waylaid her  at Takarakodi and raped her in a  forest area. Prashanth is a resident of Muchur and   a labourer. Valentine D’Souza, the then Circle Inspector had submitted the charge sheet in the court.
