Street play teaches viewers how to avoid accidents

Mangalore, July 5, 2012: A group of young people staged a street play at the entrance of Mangalore Central Railway Station to create public awareness about accidents at railway crossings on July 5, Thursday. 


The actors were from the Southern Railway State Bharath Scouts and Guides, Palghat unit. The play was all about how accidents can occur at railway crossings, teaching viewers how they can avoid accidents. The team had 15 actors led by S. Afsar Ahmed, district governing commissioner.

Speaking about the play, Afsar said that they have already staged it at Kozhikode and Palghat stations and plan to stage it at petrol bunks in Shornur and Kannur so that public awareness can be created among drivers about how accidents can occur at railway crossings. 


Stating that accidents occur mostly because of the carelessness of drivers, he said that all railway crossings in the Palghat Division are manned, because of which accidents are fewer here while compared to other divisions. 


Through the street play, the actors informed viewers how accidents can occur and how they can be avoided. 


Piyush Agarwal, divisional railway manager of Southern Railways Palghat Division, and P. M. Radhakrishnan, station manager, were the chief guests of the events.
