State responsible for church attacks - Justice M. F. Saldanha report

Mangalore, Feb 23: Justice M. F. Saldanha, a former Karnataka High Court judge, has prepared a report on the church attacks of 2008, in which he has accused CM B. S. Yeddyurappa and Dr. V. S. Acharya, the former home minister, of have played an active role on the 2008 attacks on churches in Karnataka.

The report is based on interviews with the Mangalore-based victims of the 2008 attacks and specifically states that the attacks “were not only supported by the state, but were also covered up for by the state.” It further states that the responsibility for this rests on the Home Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya and Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa.

This independent report, prepared with the assistance of the People’s Union for Civil Liberties and Transparency International, was released on Mumbai yesterday.
