
Mangalore, Nov 20, 2011: The Department of Public Instruction, DK Zilla Panchayat, and Sacred Heart High School organized a state-level netball tournament for high school students at Sacred Hearts’ High School, Kulshekar on Nov 19 Saturday.
The event commenced with a march past by students from 18 districts, including Kolar, Haveri, Bangalore North, Bangalore South, Bellary, Davanagere, Hassan, Udupi, Chitradurga, Udupi, DK, and Belgaum.

Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp and Rev. Fr. Valerian Pinto threw the ball at the net to start the tournament.
Rev. Sr. Mary Lita of Bethany Institution inaugurated the march past. Mayor Praveen Kumar hoisted the flag. In his address, he said that the MCC has donated Rs. 1 lakh for the sports meet to encourage the spirit of sport among children.
Rev. Fr. R. P. Arora of Kulshekar felicitated three students of Sacred Heart High School for participating at the national level.
The tournament was held in the Under 14 and Under 17 Boys and Girls categories. Over 30 teams from all over Karnataka and a total of 950 players are participating in this event.
The chief guests of the event were Dr. Channappa Gowda, the DC of DK district; Dayavathi, the block education officer for Mangalore; Mariamma Thomas, the corporator; and Shailaja Bhat, the president of DK ZP.
