Mangalore, Apr 26, 2013: Youth Congress Member and Sandalwood Star Ramya has said that Congress party has done many developmental works in the society and youth must support the party in better interest of their future.
Speaking at the press meet held at District Congress Office on April 26, Friday, she said that Mangalore and Udupi were very close to her since she had started her first poll campaigning during the Udupi Lok Sabha by-elections in which the party candidate Jayaprakash Hegde had won.
On the Congress candidate from Mangalore Constituency, Ramya said ‘I know U T Khader ‘uncle’ since long. He has a vision to implement good developmental works in the state.”
Congress party workers must work with dignity. The party has good administrators and it has given more opportunity for youth and equal priority to women, she said.
Replying to media persons’ query on party hopping by celebrities, Ramya said as the issue is based on their personal choice,no one has the right to comment.
Elaborating on the benefit of star campaigners, Ramya said they can increase the votes garnered by a party by at least 5 per cent. She said during her campaigning, many have assured to vote for Congress since they liked her and many have also Tweeted that they would support the Congress since they are her fans.” I do not know why former union minister has said that star campaigners are not important. Apart from being star I am also a youth member, she added.
Ramya further said there was no question of her missing a ticket to contest this time as she had never applied for a ticket. “However, my mom had applied, but she couldn’t make it,” Ramya informed.
KPCC Secretary Ivan D’Souza said that Sonia Gandhi will land at Bajpe Airport on April 27, Saturday at 12 noon and then leave for Chickmagalur by helicopter and return to Mangalore helipad at 2.30 pm.
She will participate in a public meeting at Nehru Maidan at 3 pm and return to the airport at 4 pm, Ivan informed.
Congress leaders T Ibrahim, Sadashiv Ullal, Farooq Ullal, Nazeer Bajal and others were present.
