St Sebastian Church Bendur to hold Inter Parish Cricket Tournament from Oct 27

Mangalore, Oct 24, 2013: St Sebastian Church, Bendur will hold Inter Parish Cricket Tournament to mark the Centenary celebration at Padua High School Grounds, Nanthoor on October 27, Sunday at 9.30 am.


Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on October 24, Thursday, Rev Fr Antony Serrao, Parish Priest, Bendur Church said that as a part of centenary celebration, the church have planned various projects, programmes and activities.

The church will organize number of intra parish games and sports events for boys, girls, men and women categories were conducted through throughout the year.


The mega event of the centenary sports and games is Inter Parish Cricket Tournament which is open to the bonafide Catholics of 21 parishes of the Mangalore City. Out of 21 parishes, 16 teams have entered Padua High School Grounds, Nathoor. Errol John Samuel, NRI Entrepreneur and Philanthropist is the main sponsor of the tournament.


He also said that it is an under arm limited over Rubber Ball Cricket Tournament. The matches are spread over three consecutive Sundays, on October 27, November 3 and November 10. The entry is free.


Clement G Pinto, general manager, Corporation Bank will be the chief guest and will inaugurate the tournament on October 27 at 9.30 am. Naveen R D’Souza, corporator of Mangalore City Corporation will be the guest of honour.


Errol John Samuel will be the chief guest at the valedictory ceremony to be held on November 10, Sunday at 5 pm. Dr Christopher C Pais, Professor of Medicine, KMC will be the guest of honour.


All participants will be given a T’Shirt and a certificate. The winners will get a cash prize of Rs 55,555 and runners up will get Rs 44,444 besides attractive permanent trophies. Man of the match, man of the series, Best Batsman, Best Bowler will get a cash prize of Rs 2,500 each and trophies. 


Parish Council, vice president Ronald Francis Walder, sports and Games committee convener Christtopher C M D’Souza and Copmmittee member Rolphy Mascarhenhas were present at the press meet.
