Mangaluru, May 6, 2026: The recounting of postal ballots in the Sringeri Assembly constituency has come under focus, with the BJP alleging that Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader is delaying the oath-taking process.
Responding to the allegations in Mangaluru, Speaker U.T. Khader said that democracy and the parliamentary system must function on trust. “Without trust, it is not possible,” he said.
He denied any delay, stating that no one had met him while he was in Bengaluru. He added that a request seeking time was submitted only yesterday.
Calling it a technical matter, Khader said that opinions need to be obtained and described the situation as a unique one. He emphasized that an opportunity must be provided within the framework of the Constitution and the law.
He clarified that the government’s legal battle is not related to him and that he must function under the Constitution and the democratic system.
Khader also said that unnecessary haste and suspicion in the matter are not good. He noted that the Governor had called and spoken to him.
“There has been no delay, nor is there any attempt to obstruct the process,” he said, adding that an investigation should be conducted to determine when, where, and by whom any mistake may have been made.
