Sr. Cresencia breathes her last at age 103

Sr Cresencia12aug26 1Bantwal, Aug 26, 2012: Sr. Cresencia, member of the Society of the Sisters of Bethany, died at the age of 103 on the night of August 25, Friday. 


The senior nun, who hails from Goa, had served in several parts of the state before coming to Holy Family Convent at Nirkana in Vogga of Bantwal in 1978. 


Raymond Mascarenhas, founder of Bethany Sisters, inspired her to join the Bethany Convent in Mangalore when she was only 10 years old. She was called Carmelina, Maria, and Angelica before finally getting the name of Sr. Crescencia when she became a nun. 


She had served at Puttur, Gurupur, Kanajar, Siddakatte, Kinnigoli, Dharwad, and Kadoor convents. Besides, she has also served in Kerala. 


The people of Vogga used to call her Vadlimai Sister (grandmother sister). A large number of people, including Christian leaders, will take part in her final rites, which are to be held on Sunday.
