Sports club raided for illegal betting activities

Mangalore, Aug 2, 2012: A district administration team, under the leadership of Tahsildar Ravichandra Naik, raided an indoor sports club near Hotel Nisarga on Thursday to find out if illegal betting is being held there. 

The tahsildar said that a group of 30 – 40 people was inside the sports club when it was raided, but nobody seemed to be involved in illegal betting. Since the team found a register bearing names and signatures and amounts paid and some people were watching the live England vs. South Africa cricket match on TV, the team concluded that illegal betting was taking place at the venue.

 

Many people in the sports club, however, fled through a door in the corner of the room.
The tahsildar said that CCTV footage will be analyzed to find out more about the activities at the sports club. 

The team conducted the raid  because a citizen had lodged a complaint against the sports club with DC Dr. Channappa Gowda.
