Speeding bus kills 3 from same family

Udupi, Oct 5, 2012 : Three people belonging to the same family died when they were hit by a speeding bus near Kaup Vidyaniketan School on NH66 on the night of Oct 4 Thursday.

 

The deceased are Rafeeq (45) of Hejamady, his wife Nuseeba (35) of Jokatte, and his sister Nabeesa. Rafeeq’s son’s Ghalib (14) and Nabeesa’s son Fahad (2) survived the accident, but sustained severe injuries.

The five were trying to cross the road when a Durgamba bus, which was trying to overtake two buses in front of them, dashed into them.

The family, which hails from Hejamady, had come to Kaup to visit some relatives. Rafeeq had come back home from Kuwait just a week back.

Furious people rushed to the spot and began protesting. Some of them even threw stones at the buses and damaged them. They calmed down only when Lalaji R. Mendon, Deviprasad Shetty, and M. A. Ghafoor visited the place.

Shivanand Walekar, circle inspector for Kaup, SI Archana, Shirva SI K. R. Nayak, Padubidri SI Mahadev Shetty, and other police officers also visited the place.

The Kaup police have registered a case.
