Mangaluru, Dec 02, 2020: Teachers of special schools staged a protest in front of the Mini Vidhana Saudha in Mangaluru on December 2, Wednesday demanding hike in honorarium provided to teachers and staff of special schools in the state which are receiving grants by the government.
The protest was organised by the DK District unit of the Karnataka State Special Teachers’ Association, Karnataka State Association for Special Education and Supportive Staff and Karnataka State Union for Differently Abled Service Organisation.
Fr Mathew Vas, Correspondent of St Mary’s Special School, Kinnigoli and Chief Parish Priest of Kinnigoli Church inaugurated the protest and urged the government to respond positively to the demands of the special school teachers who are serving the differently abled children.
Dr Vasanth Kumar Shetty, State Honorary Secretary of the Association said around 141 institutions are receiving grants from the government and that the special school teachers get an honorarium of just Rs 13,500 and the demand to double the honorarium amount has fallen on deaf ears.

The Special school teachers also took out a jatha from Hampankatta to the Mini Vidhana Saudha.
