Mangalore, Jan 17, 2013: K Rahman Khan, Union Minister for Minority Affairs has said special schemes aimed at the welfare of the minorities will be implemented in Bidar and Gulbarga districts which have been identified as minority concentrated districts by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs.
Speaking to reporters at the District Congress Office here on January 16, Wednesday, he said a grant of Rs 40 crore has been set aside to the two districts. He informed that in all 90 districts have been identified in the nation for the purpose and added the identified districts have a minority population of above 25 per cent and also lack basic amenities.
On the development agenda includes opening of hospitals, schools and provision of better sanitation facilities, he informed. Referring to the various programmes initiated by his Ministry for the welfare of minority communities, the Minister said it has been providing scholarships for students and has also established skill development centres.
On the proposed Tipu Sultan University and the comment of a BJP leader that no land will be earmarked for the purpose, he said there was no need for the BJP to react on the issue.
