
Udupi, Jan 18, 2026: The Shiroor Paryaya 2026 commenced in the early hours of Sunday with the Sarvajna Peetarohana of Shiroor seer Sri Vedavardhana Theertha Swamiji, marking the formal transfer of Paryaya responsibilities at Sri Krishna Math.
With the ceremony, the two-year Paryaya tenure of Sri Puttige Math concluded, and Shiroor Math assumed charge of administering Sri Krishna Math and performing daily pooja to Lord Sri Krishna.


The Paryaya rituals began around 1.30 am with Sri Vedavardhana Theertha Swamiji taking a holy dip at Dandatheertha Lake, Kaup, followed by special rituals and pooja to Veera Vittala at Jodukatte. The grand Paryaya procession began around 3 am from Jodukatte, with the swamiji taken in a decorated palanquin on an open vehicle, accompanied by seers of the Ashta Maths and thousands of devotees.
The procession, featuring colourful tableaus, folk art forms, bhajan groups, band sets, chende and classical music, passed through major roads of Udupi before reaching Rathabeedi. Seers including Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji (Pejavara), Sri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji (Sode), Sri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji (Kaniyooru), Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji (Krishnapura), Sri Eeshapriya Swamiji (Adamaru), and senior and junior pontiffs of Palimaru Math accompanied the Shiroor swamiji.
After offering prayers at Kanakana Kindi and the Ananteshwara, Chandramouleeswara and Mukhyaprana temples, Sri Vedavardhana Theertha Swamiji entered Sri Krishna Math. Sri Sugunendra Theertha Sripadaru of Sri Puttige Math ceremoniously handed over the Paryaya charge, and the Sarvajna Peetarohana was held at 5.55 am.
The Shiroor swamiji was accorded a grand welcome along Car Street, where a white carpet was laid for his ceremonial walk. The Paryaya celebrations, which began with the Pura Pravesha on January 9, will continue until January 22. A public felicitation will be held at Rajangana from 5 pm to 7 pm on Sunday, followed by the Brahma Rathotsava at 7.30 pm.
