Ship which set sail from Mangalore capsizes near Lakshadweep; 3 missing

Madonna Vessel sinksMangalore, Oct 27, 2013: A  vessel named ‘Madonna’ that had left for Lakshadweep island from Mangalore, has reportedly capsized near the Androte island  on October 26, Saturday.  Of the five  men of Tamil Nadu origin who were on board, two have  swam ashore to safety  while  three are missing.

The vessel owned by Rafique had set sail from the port on October 24 morning carrying cement, jelly and food materials. As scheduled, the ship had to reach Lakshadweep within 26 hours but  did not reach its destination. Later it came to light that it had capsized. The loss has been estimated at Rs 50 lakhs.

Search is presently on for the missing crew namely Maria Antony Selva Kumar, Satish Karnal and Selva Kumar. Two others who swam ashore are Ama Maria and Harish.
