Sexual harassment case: Mangalore University Economics Professor suspended from service

Mangaluru, Oct 31, 2020:    Prof Arabi U  of the Department of Economics of Mangalore University has been suspended from service  in  a case of  sexual harassment of a research  scholar. The University Syndicate  at its meeting recently had decided to dismiss him from service.

 

Though the Committee which   had enquired into the case on the basis of a complaint had submitted its report two years ago itself, the  then Registrar of the University Dr A M Khan had reportedly  failed to initiate any action.

It was after the State  Women’s Commission sought a status report that the Enquiry Committee report was placed before the Syndicate meeting and a decision was taken to dismiss the accused professor.

The University Syndicate had also decided to ask the government to initiate action against the then Registrar for not acting on the basis of the enquiry committee report.
