Seven Injured in Fireworks Mishap at Puttur Jathra

Puttur, April 19, 2026: Seven people sustained burn injuries after sparks from a fireworks display fell into the crowd during the Puttur Jathra festival on Friday night.

The injured—Sumanth Shetty, Bharath, Kaushik, Soumya, Deepak, Yashwanth, and Mohan—are all residents of Kundapur who had attended the festival together. They have been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru and are reported to be out of danger.

In a complaint, Sumanth Shetty alleged negligence by the fireworks handlers and the temple management, stating that adequate safety measures and safe distance norms were not maintained during the high-intensity display.

Puttur city police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident, including a review of safety protocols and permissions for the fireworks show.
