Mangaluru, Jul 27, 2026: The process for selecting the new Dakshina Kannada District Congress president will begin on Tuesday, with AICC, KPCC and state-appointed observers arriving in Mangaluru to oversee the exercise, outgoing District Congress President Harish Kumar said on Monday.
Addressing a press conference, Harish Kumar said the Congress leadership has appointed observers to ensure that the selection of the new district president is carried out after obtaining the opinion of party workers and leaders.
The observers will arrive at the District Congress office on Tuesday morning and hold a meeting, followed by a press conference. A general body meeting will then be conducted, after which the observers will meet senior Congress leaders individually and are expected to arrive at an initial decision by the evening.
Harish Kumar said that incumbent district presidents who have completed five years in office will not be eligible to apply for another term.
From July 29 to August 12, the observers will visit all eight Assembly constituencies and 16 block Congress committees in the district. They will interact with local leaders, gather feedback, and scrutinise the applications received for the post of District Congress president.
Based on the consultations, the observers will recommend three to seven names to the party high command.
The final appointment of the new District Congress president will be made by the AICC and KPCC leadership in consultation with the state leadership, Harish Kumar added.
Congress leaders Lavanya Ballal, Shubhodaya Alva, Sadashiva Ullal and others were present at the press conference.
