Manipal, July 27, 2013: Ten traffic monitoring points would be set up in Manipal University apart from installation of CC Cameras at several points. A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting convened by Udupi Deputy Commissioner MT Reju in the wake of the recent gang rape of a medical student of Manipal University.
The meeting was attended by district level officials, representatives of Manipal University, Udupi CMC councilors and representatives of autorickshaw union.
It was also decided in the meeting to install bright street lights and also to provide Unique Identification Numbers to all autorickshaws.
Dr GK Prabhu, Registrar of Manipal University said the University has plans to provide security to students who leave the campus to their houses and hostels after the 10 pm.
The Deputy Commissioner also instructed the excise and revenue officials to ensure that bars and restaurants closed doors at the stipulated time.
The meeting further deliberated upon the need to introduce a helpline to assist students in times of emergency.
