Season’s first cruise ship calls in at Mangalore

Mangalore, Oct 23: MV Aida Aura, the first cruise ship of the season, called at New Mangalore Port on Oct 23, Saturday with a crew of 394 and 1241 passengers on board.

About 1100 passengers took a tour of places in and around Mangalore such as the Thousand Pillar Temple at Moodabidri, Lord Gomateshwara Statue at Karkala, Soans Farm, the cashew factories, St. Aloysius Chapel, Gokarnanatha Temple, Kadri Manjnatha Temple, city shopping centres, and so on. The cruise ship sailed off on the evening of Oct 23.

The cruise ship had arrived from Goa and set off to Cochin. Most of its passengers are from Germany. It is the 4th cruise ship to call in at Mangalore during 2010 – 11.

Chairman P. Tamilvanan said that the port expects 6 more cruise ships to call in during the rest of this financial year and added that the port infrastructure is fit to handle all cruise ships that call in.
