Science exhibition and drama competition held at Pilikula

Mangalore, Nov 25, 2011 : Shivaprasad Khened, the director of the Vishweshwarayya Industrial and Technical Museum (VITM), inaugurated the Science Exhibition and Drama Competition organized by the DK ZP Department of Public Instructions and Pilikula Regional Science Centre in Vamanjoor yesterday.

A total of 35 schools participated in the Science Exhibition Competition and displayed over 90 models. The expo had six categories such as energy, food and agriculture, health, mathematics and disaster management, and gift of nature. A group of science teachers also displayed models they use in schools for teaching purposes.

Dr. K. V. Rao, the director of Pilikula Regional Science Centre, said that these models have been chosen from the taluk-level science expo and that the best of them will be displayed at the state level.

The event will include a session titled Chemistry in the Kitchen by Dr. Arun Islur, professor at NIT-K Suratkal, and a quiz competition.

The Pilikula Regional Science Centre, which might be launched in June 2012, is worth Rs. 8.5 crore and is funded by the state as well as central government.

Revealing more details, Shivaprasad Khened said that it will have three galleries, emphasizing on emerging technologies, biodiversity, and fun science.

Besides, it will also have air-conditioned auditoriums and host three-dimensional shows for the amusement of the public.

A science centre will also be set up in Dharwad University, he added.
