Sandesha Awards 2024 conferred on 8 Achievers

Bengaluru, Feb 12, 2024: The Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education hosted the Sandesha Awards 2024 ceremony on Sunday, February 11, at the Sandesha ground in Nanthoor.

During this event, eight distinguished individuals were honored with the Sandesha Awards across various categories. B A Viveka Rai received the Sandesha Literature Award (Kannada), Valerian Quadras received the Sandesha Literature Award (Konkani), and Muddu Moodubele was honored with the Sandesha Literature Award (Tulu). Abdussalam Puttige was recognized with the Sandesha Media Award, while Alwyn D’Cunha received the Sandesha Konkani Music Award. Chandranth Acharya was presented with the Sandesha Art Award, Hucchamma received the Sandesha Education Award, and the Sandesha Special Award was bestowed upon Jana Shikshana Trust.

During the event, U T Khader, the chief guest and Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, expressed his delight at participating in the Sandesha Foundation’s awards ceremony. He lauded the Foundation for its dual mission of fostering arts and culture while acknowledging and honoring deserving individuals. Khader underscored the transformative influence of Sandesha, expressing gratitude for the dedication of its founding members. He stressed the belief that culture serves as a conduit to touch hearts, citing customs, traditions, and unity as true markers of prosperity.

Addressing the audience, Dr. Peter Machado, Archbishop of Bangalore and President of the Karnataka Regional Bishops Conference, emphasized the significance of arts and culture in expressing the divine. He commended Sandesha as a hub that nurtures these aspects and stressed the importance of imparting values to children amidst societal pressures.

Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore, drew parallels between the unity found in diverse cultures and the sense of oneness experienced in places of worship. Emphasizing the importance of brotherhood (Bandhutva), he highlighted shared values that unite people.

Dr. Henry D’Souza, the Bishop of Bellary and Chairman of the institute, urged the audience to prioritize personal growth over circumstances of birth. He applauded the awardees and advocated for using art and culture to engage a broader audience. Additionally, he promoted the use of social media and artificial intelligence for both promotion and environmental conservation efforts.

Upon receiving the award, Prof. B A Vivek Rai expressed heartfelt appreciation to the organizers for their commitment to preserving tradition. He underscored the profound sense of unity that transcends boundaries of caste, class, culture, and language, fostering a global family sentiment. Prof. Rai emphasized the role of the Sandesha Institute and its awards in exemplifying this unity. He urged the younger generation to value and uphold the foundation laid by their predecessors, cautioning against disrupting this unity for trivial reasons.

Dr. Sudeep Paul, Director of the Sandesha Foundation, delivered the welcoming address, while Roy Castelino, Trustee of Sandesha, conveyed gratitude in the vote of thanks.
