
Mangalore, Dec 25, 2012: Sadguru Sangeetha Patashala in association with Pallavi Classicals organized a ‘Mangalore Festival’ at Subrahmanya Sabha, Karangalpady on Dec 25, Tuesday.
Mridangam artiste Vidwan Ramesh B Suratkal was presented ‘Pallavi Award’ on the occasion. The Award comprised of a shawl, memento, cash and a citation.



Speaking after receiving the award, Ramesh said he was surprised and at the same time happy to receive the award as he was a lesser known mridangam artist who would accompany many great singers in their classical music concerts.
Presiding over the function, P Jayaram Bhat, Managing Director, Karnataka Bank said that the organization has done a great job by identifying a mridangam artist and honouring him. He emphasized the need to encourage classical instrumental artistes as it is the instrument which adds to the flavor of classical music.
D S Seethaprajna Shringeri and B Manoj Rao were presented Prathibha Puraskar awards.
Ramachandra Rao H V, Chief Secretary, Department of Kannada and Culture, Bangalore, C S Bhagya, Registrar, Karnataka Sangeetha Nrithya Academy, Bangalore, S Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President, DK District Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Amithakala,Deputy Mayor and US Vishnumurthy Rao, President, Nrithyanikethana, were the chief guests on the occasion.
A “Seetharama Abhisheka and Kalyanotsava,” depicting the marriage ceremony of Lord Ram and Goddess Seetha, was presented on the occasion.
