SDPI plans to field Praveen Nettaru’s murder accused Shafi Bellare in Karnataka polls

Puttur, Feb 14, 2023: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has named the accused in the Praveen Nettaru murder among its list of candidates for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly polls from Puttur. The accused, Shafi Bellare, is in NIA custody.

Shafi Bellare was allegedly involved in the murder of BJP Yuva Morcha leader in Karnataka in July last year. The murder was allegedly plotted by the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI).

The SDPI president said they had not announced his candidature yet.

There are three accused in the case. Shafi Bellare is currently in NIA custody.

Nettaru, a resident of Bellare and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) youth wing member, was killed with sharp weapons allegedly by cadres of the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI) on July 26, 2022.

During the NIA probe, it was revealed that a conspiracy had been hatched by leaders and members of the PFI to murder Nettaru to take revenge and to strike terror among the people of society.

The case was initially registered at Bellare police station in Dakshina Kannada district on July 27 last year and re-registered by the NIA on August 4.
