Mangalore, Oct 31, 2012: MLA U. T. Khader said that students under the state syllabus will suffer if the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) is implemented in place of the Common Entrance Test (CET).

Addressing reporters on Tuesday, Khader said that implementation of NEET will make it difficult for poor, rural students to compete against urban students, who have studied in CBSE schools and colleges.
Further, he said that rural students must also be taught according to the CBSE syllabus in order to effectively compete against central school students. For this, teachers should also be trained and required facilities and resources need to be provided. The state government should either train the students for the NEET or postpone implementation of NEET to the next academic year.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has directed the union ministry of health and family welfare to conduct NEET-UG and make it mandatory from 2013 – 14. Students, who have been preparing for the CET, must now switch to the CBSE syllabus.
