Rural areas are deprived of good medical care - Justice Santhosh Hegde

Mangalore, Feb 3, 2012: Delivering the inaugural address after declaring open a seminar titled “Medicine Update 2012” organized by the department of medicine and medical specialties of Fr. Muller Medical College as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of its post graduation medical education course in FMMC’s decennial hall on Feb 3 Friday, Justice Santhosh Hegde, the former Lokayukta, regretted that modern doctors hardly serve in rural areas owing to which people in rural areas are deprived of the best medical care.

Speaking about the importance of knowledge, he said that knowledge comes from research. He also said that seminars such as these are good for doctors, especially those who have no access to the knowledge they provide. Doctors can use this knowledge to serve their patients better, he said. 


Lamenting that there is no profession free from corruption, he urged people to earn money in legitimate ways and overcome their greed. 


Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Anil D’Cruz, the director of Tata Memorial Cancer Institute said that each variety of cancer is treated in a different manner and doctors must have the required knowledge and experience to determine what is best for their patients. 


Dr. N. Hegde and Dr. K. S. Bhat were felicitated on the occasion. Dr. J. P. Alva delivered the welcome address and Dr. Roshan proposed the vote of thanks. 


Chairman Dr. Prabhakar spoke about the topic of the seminar and Fr. Denis D’Sa introduced the guest of honor and the chief guest.
